I was looking through all those comments and I have a feeling most of the haters weren't even muslim. Or if they were muslim they weren't actually religious, but rather antis who want to attack her for anything she does.
I totally agree with you. People are just looking for a reason to attack her and they’ll use just about any reason to bring her down.
I am too fucking lazy to re-write what I wrote over on twitter last, so here’s a retweet that summarise it all:
okay now let’s have a stroll along onehallyu :
Sorry dude but I am an ARAB and A MUSLIM; I STUDIED QURA’AN FOR 16 YEARS and I use it it five times a day to even mistake “in the name of god the most merciful and the most gracious” is “The Basmala" The Opening Statement of the Quran. A seven years old will tell you a The Basmala never comes in the middle of a sura; it occurs at the beginning of each sura of the Quran and is usually not numbered as a verse except at its first appearance at the start of the first sura. Apart from the ninth sura ”At-Tawba” The Basmala occurs as part of a sura’s text in verse 30 of the 27th sura ”An-Naml” and the verse you are referring to in this song should be around the 2:20-3:00 minute in the Quran reading clip. Which mind you is from “An-Naba’a” sura, which does not have The Basmala in the middle of it verses. And for me that is much much more offensive; to actually use the name of Allah in vain.
People are actually arguing the song having actual verses, when the actual argument point here is not the verses because the words aren’t recognisable, aren’t even actual words in the song. The similarity point is “Tarteel" which is how perfect you punctuate and read the Quran in a very beautiful voice and mind you some Quran readers take vocal lessons for that in Egypt which for your information the closest thing it is to a "Mawwal"; is a traditional genre of vocal music that is usually presented before the actual song begins. I don’t see singers being prosecuted and executed in Egypt for that?
In Islam our Prophet PBUH described the most beautiful reading voices as “David Flutes”.
Do I believe CL or teddy found it on YT and put it in the song?
No I don’t. Because it will be ridicilous to be this ignorant for one, and two YG bought Abracadabra dance move copyrights from its original choreographer wouldn’t you think they will try to find this young boy and try to buy the copyrights of this “phrase” they added. Wouldn’t you think they tried to imitate the same exact note? Which is possible 100% and can be mistaken by the boy’s Tarteel and this is a very plausible argument and might be the case and I hope so.
Plus I keep playing it and it is really brief; I believe they are seconds on loop, and I can’t hear actual words.
I refuse to aknowledge this level of ignorance, if you are going to defend something as sensitive as this you do not bring a clip and add it to another and ask me what you think without a leg it argument and more evidence. Do you even know how many Muslims in the world? We are about the most growing and expanding religion, do you think we are a minority? The world knows Islam is a religion, and there is a holy book is as holy as theirs called Quran. A very dominant part of the world are Islamic countries that you will hear a call of prayer five times a day even from the moon. I am a Muslim and my Prophet taught me that I am not a true believer if I don’t believe in God, his angels, his messengers (prophets) and his holy books… I believe in Jesus, I believe in Bible. and I respect churches and chapels and when I hear these bells I know it hold significance to christians. I greet them on their holidays and occasions. I know when they are praying! I recognise when they are praying. Do you think they wouldn’t recognise when we are reciting? The thing about Quran is it intrigue you it makes you go and look for what is this they are reading! Look it up, it is true. That is why I said I refuse to believe this level of ignorance because a human being would be curious to learn more to discover more, if they did and found out it is actually Quran and tried to imitate it I would feel a bit wary but does that offend me? No. Because as I mentioned earlier go and search reciter “Abdul-Basit Abdus-Samad” and then go and listen to “Umm Kulthum” who Her father, an Imam at the local mosque, taught her to recite the Quran; and dig out the similarities. It is the “voice” not the “words”
What offends me more as a Muslim is watching Muslims asking CL to kill her self.
Let me remind you fellow Muslims with this verse from our own religion:
أَنَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا
المائدة، الآية: ٣٢
"if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind" (Al-Mae’da: 32)
Being a reason for someone to take his own life, isn’t this as same as taking it with your own hands? Would you live with killing her? Okay then how would you live with killing all human kind?
Furthemore, our Prophet PBUH said to one of his Sahaba “;Believers who embraced Islam in his life”; you have got two manners that Allah loves: forbearance and patience.
Forbearance is much much more than mere self-control, or refraining from something. It is much much more than tolerance and patience. And this is one of the most sophisticated loved manner in Islam, one manner of messengers and prophets.
I am a Muslim, it is a part of me, and I am proud. I may not be a perfect Muslim but I am a proud so please hold your horses, be a real Muslim and remember “Religion is Manners” and don’t embarrass me any further. Wait for an explanation and don’t turn this into religious war. This isn’t the crusades. We are not going to start a religious war over a song which is pleasure you are granted in life, because when you are buried it is not her song you are going to be asked about. You want a real cause? A true cause then you should defend your brothers and sisters who are dying in Syria, Palestine, Bali and Somalia! Do something for the world to be a better place, and for yourself to be a better person. Because a song is just a song, and in time it will wither and die, twenty years from now you will not hear but a new cover or redemption of it and it will not add to you as a person.
As serious I am with this blog I am writing now, I want to end it with this one .gif because this is how I am feeling since yesterday
All in all:
Is it similar? Yes.
Is it Quran? No.
Are you offended? No.
How do you feel about it then?
I don’t know, it’s giving me headache?
